A Brand New Beginning
Senior. Year.
The moment every person dreams about. The idea that is portrayed in so many movies. It's weird to think that I am finally here, living that dream. But what's interesting is that it's not really the same as I pictured it to be as a freshman. For me, I'm still dreaming. I'm doing things that I have never done before. Let's just say that it's been a big change to not have the stress of cross country in my life for the entire fall. Instead, I feel comfortable; I am more confident in my choices.

Of course, now is the beginning of the school year. It's full of fundraisers, instructions, rules that will soon be broken, new clothes, and finally getting back into the swing of things. But then, to make things worth it, there was Okoboji.
Where I am from, a lot of people end up going to Okoboji at some point during the summer, but I have never had the privilege of doing so. This year was a little bit different. I was able to go up with my friend, Maria, and take most of her senior pictures, along with being able to hang out and relax for a few days in the summer sun. We headed out Saturday morning after finishing a road race. Even out of shape, I was able to place second in our age group, while Maria finished first! I haven't gotten a medal in awhile; it was a sweet victory.
We were able to swim at the lake, boat, and go on many of the rides at Arnolds Park. I was a typical tourist, wanting to experience as much as possible in the small amount of time that we had. We shopped, another thing that girls like to do, and slept in late. All in all, it was a great weekend. But the most interesting thing about it was that it was stereotypical. You always see high school and college students go on road trips in the movies, but I never thought that my parents would let me do something like that. But that's the thing. They did. Parents do things that we don't expect. It's weird how the new label of senior adds so much power and authority to who you are. I'm not going to lie, I am starting to enjoy the freedom. Striding for him.
