Relays Edition

As it gets warmer outside *fingers crossed that it stays this way*, things are changing! Last night I attended my first meeting for Drake's newspaper, the Times-Delphic. It was an informational meeting about the different story ideas for their largest edition, the Relays edition. I am pretty excited about this opportunity, and learned about how writing for this edition will look on my official resume.

The Relays edition is a compilation of 40+ pages of stories. Contrary to what I believed, most of these stories are not about the Drake Relays events. Instead, it is like a giant magazine of different articles that range from sports to tanning. At the meeting, the editors had cut up pieces of paper and scattered them on a table. Each paper had a story idea on it, which is open for anyone to take and write about.

Because of this, I am interested in actually writing for the newspaper. My goal is to get at least one story into the paper BEFORE the Relays edition comes out.

Two of the stories I chose are about blogs. One is a reflection of my personal blog, this, and the other is about student blogs on campus. I am excited to do these, and get a little plug to my blogs, especially for my photography. Who knows. Maybe someone who is reading the paper will come back and read this post. Comment if this actually happens.

Throughout the rest of this school year my goal is to increase my ability as a writer of articles. I don't think that analyzing articles over J-Term really helped this, but I think that my reporting class is going to encourage me to change things and not make the same mistakes twice.

Well, that seems to be all for now!

Striding for him,
Melanie Leach
