Homework
Instead of actually doing my homework, I am opting to write ABOUT my homework. Well, at least about the classes.
My first week at Grand View went extremely well. I made a lot of friends and really enjoyed my classes. I am taking 3 communications classes, 1 photography class, 1 math class, choir, history, and a private choral lesson. This makes it an extremely full schedule. I am taking 17 credits, but doing the work of 20 because I have to take choir for no credit.
However, instead of stressing out about all of the work I will need to do, I decided to look on the bright side of things. In each of my communications classes we have a lot of different useful projects to do. We will be learning skills that will later help build up our resume, hopefully leading to jobs!
Like I said, I am taking a photography class, and we have been going over basic digital photography, as well as editing software. This is an accelerated course, so we will do 16 weeks worth of material in just 8 weeks. Also, it's a night class.
So on Thursday night we had an assignment to go shoot 16 pictures that fit into select categories. Imagine me, attempting to wean my way off of auto IN THE DARK. We only had a half an hour to shoot the pictures, which is less than 2 minutes per picture. And of course they had to be artistic. And as I was attempting to set my aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, I had a little bit of a breakdown. I struggled. BUT everything is ok! I finished the assignment, and I don't think that this course will be too terribly hard on me.
Moving on... On Friday I had one more class before the weekend, and I wasn't really looking forward to going over yet another syllabus, but my professor really got me excited about the work that we will be completing each week.
This class is about digital and audio production, and we will be making things for radio as well as the TV screen. However, our professor allows us to choose our own subjects for projects so that we will actually enjoy what we are doing. Also, she made it clear that if we follow her instructions, we should all have projects that can be used later on in a portfolio to show future employers.
I am so excited to be able to use some of my photos and videos from Haiti to make projects that will promote Global Compassion Network, and all that they have been doing. I encourage you to go to the page, or at least "like" their Facebook page so that you can receive updates on what they are doing in several countries around the world.
I suppose I should probably work on a few of my assignments, but I figured I would fill people in on what my experience at Grand View has been thus far.
Striding for him,
Melanie
